Kate goes black leather and Keprotech to test the versatile Sascia Jeans from Weise, ladies specific fitment and it would seem, styled for ladies too.

Initial Thoughts

I've never purchased leather jeans before – well not for riding anyway! The only leather trousers I have ridden in were part of a ladies race suit – how would these compare? I've always had a preference for textile trousers as have found these more comfortable and also have preferred the look of a bootcut textile trouser, the shape of leathers for ladies can look too manly and finding a well cut riding set is actually incredibly difficult.

The day these arrived I realised these may have the best of both worlds as they are not solely made from leather, added Keprotec panels front and back make them extremely flexible and pretty comfortable so there is no need to break the leather in the same way you would expect, the Keprotech gives all day comfort from the first wear while the leather gradually stretches and supples out over time . As the jeans are more than 50% Keprotec® they are also very lightweight and I quite like the way this dual material adds to the overall look of the trouser and also hugs your figure, the slightly bootcut leg design fits easily over your riding boot and gives the visual effect that elongates the leg making it look longer, something us ladies love.

The pair I reviewed were the regular 32” and were the perfect length for me (I'm 5'4”) which I was really pleased about as have previously found riding jeans extremely long.

Construction

These jeans are high waisted much like a racing trouser which means you don't get a cold back even if wearing a short jacket are constructed from 1.2mm-1.4mm full grain leather and Keprotec® stretch panels down each side on the inside of the leg and around the groin, which is an extremely strong, tear resistant and abrasion resistant material, the upside to the lashings of Kevlar stretch is the airflow of the trouser is superb in warmer weather, the flipside is quite true though and in cold weather you really do start to feel the breeze pretty quickly.

Fastening securely at the waist with a twin popper and YKK® zip, I did find that when sat sometimes the popper would come undone and I found the material of the waistband slightly scratchy but as usually ride with a t-shirt tucked in this wasn't really an issue. A concealed YKK® zip fastening pocket can be found on either side of the trouser on the leather panels, the pockets are nice and deep so actually very useful too.

The waist band, which has 2 elasticated side panels is also made from Keprotec®. The waistband has 4 leather belt loops so a belt can be worn with them if required, they have removable CE approved armour in the hips and the knees whichis found in a separate Weise bag and as the cut of the jean is fairly straight the knee armour remains comfortable when in place so no terrible sticky knees when its warm and for me sat in completely the right place.

The trouser has a full polyester internal lining making them lovely and warm and I experienced no rubbing of either the seams of the leather or the velcro fastening where the armour fits, as previously mentioned the stretch panels to allow for a nice movement of air, they are not over the top in any way though so an ideal all day, dry weather trouser.

The Weise Sascia Jeans have both the 6 inch and 360 degree zippers for attaching to any Weise Ladies leather of textile Jacket. As previously stated they come in either a regular 32” or long 34” leg, the overall sizing actually isn't as bad as with some makes of motorcycle wear I am usually having to look 1-2 sizes above my regular clothing sizing for a correct fit. No such issues with the sascia which fit pretty much spot on to my sizing.

Editor reviews

A stylish and comfortable pair or ladies riding jeans. Overall a little too high waisted for my personal taste as the popper popping randomly open became a little irritating, overall though really light and well constructed.

I have every confidence they would offer excellent protection in a crash situation.
