Cat Crap Anti Fog - Review http://www.bikechatter.net/media/reviews/photos/thumbnail/320x320s/90/83/e6/1094_cat-crap-1329915249.jpg
Continuing on our mission to test anti fog solutions we bagged some oddly named Cat Crap and gave it a good smear across our screens to see if it would really keep the mist at bay when we really needed it.
Initial Thoughts
Cat Crap, odd name for any motorcycle product and something I was actually expecting to look like cat crap when I popped the lid of the tub, what you actually get is some aqua green goo though which feels a little sticky and slimy at the same time. Application is said to be easy so I delved straight in and gave it a go, the goo seemed to melt from the first finger load, spreading in little circles across the inside of the visor with no need for absolute precision and following up with a buff from a dry, clean, lint free cloth.
Construction
When you start to buff it out you notice it vanish very quickly without leaving smears behind, initial application is very impressive then and I have soon covered the whole inside of the visor and buffed it out, perhaps 5 minutes in total. There are those who try and test these things in scientific ways, I am not one for that kind of thing when it comes to testing anti-fog devices though because they simply do not tell you if the product works in the real world. You can boil a kettle and hold the visor above the steam to see if it fogs and it remain clear but then fit the visor and go outside and it mists straight away - in my opinion the best test is to go for a ride.
Initially the Cat Crap behaved incredibly well, no steaming up as such and as long as the visor had at least a minimal opportunity for ventilation, if for any reason the coating started fogging over the slightest whiff of fresh air whisked it away pretty quickly, really impressive for a little, cheap tub of goo. Over a few uses I found that the coating was easy to overapply and when that happened you really started to notice when the fogging was starting to happen, you didn't actually get a misted up visor in this situation though but more of a smearing or hazing through the viewport which I actually found as difficult to clear in places as the fog itself would have been - that said a swift blast of air through the visor usually reset things back again.
When the sun goes down and the lights go out the effects of the visor hazing are amplified, car lights become a bright blur and can be quite off putting, I am not a fan of reduced vision is any circumstances so Cat Crap falls short here for me, another issue I found was when I had to crack the visor a touch to clear the hazing and got a blast of road spray managed to get inside, when mixed with the cat crap it really went to hell with the haze and at one stage I felt so vulnerable from loss of vision that I pulled over to a service station and washed it all off then started from scratch.
For 90% of the time it performs pretty well so it is not all bad, and being so inexpensive it is a good idea to pop some in your jacket pocket or under your seat if riding in cold weather but for me a physical solution is preferable over gels, creams and the like

Not especially problematic during the day the issue only really became apparent during night rides and especially on darkened roads where you may be following other traffic.
Wash your visor after each ride, reapply and you will be fine but this impacts heavily on the overall convenience and application

Ok for minor applications, troublesome at night
Ok at a push as long as you only apply sparingly, I found that over time the layers built up and caused an oversaturation which I mentioned lead to hazing or smearing when riding.

dont bother with this
take your vissor off and spray it with mr sheen this stuff is just pants. I think mr sheen does as good a job and probably a similar hazing effect when it gets overpowered as this, the only thing this has got going for it is that it is cheap and small to carry but not worth it IMO
